Look at where the temperatures are headed!
Looking back, this has been a fairly mild winter in the Treasure Valley. January and part of February was a good 10-20 degrees above normal. Then we started getting cold at the end of February. It was just enough to remind us that is was winter. Here we are going into the second week of March and all of a sudden, the temperatures want to start warming into the 60’s. It’s going to be mild for the next 5-7 days!
It’s all about the angle of sun! As the days get longer and the sun continues to climb higher in the sky, we get more direct sunlight. As the sun starts pointing more at the northern hemisphere, the solar radiation makes better contact with the surface. This in turn warms the ground, and the ground releases warmth into the atmosphere. That’s why temperatures get warmer. In the summertime, the ground gets cooked by the sun being directly overhead.
We may see a few showers Friday, but this doesn’t look like a very impressive storm. As we set our sights on the weekend, the overall pattern is looking nice and mild with highs in the low to mid 50’s. By Monday and Tuesday, temperatures will approach the low 60’s! The next potential for a storm holds off until midweek.
One more thing, remember to set your clocks ahead one hour Saturday night before you go to bed. It’s time for daylight saving time! Some of us love it, some of us don’t. But, it’s the marker that says spring is just around the corner!
