I am fortunate. I've spent most of my professional life in the mountains of the west.

There have been a few detours along the way. Three years in Texas. Another three in Wichita. Five in Kansas City.

Then there were the assignments that had me chasing news around the world: A school building expedition to Kenya. A humanitarian airlift to the old Soviet Republic of Georgia.

I was on the English Channel as two brothers swam for the beaches of France and their own place in channel history. I chronicled the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney and followed the 2002 Olympic Torch Run from Athens to Salt Lake City.

Other stories took me to Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Guatemala. Actually, three times to Guatemala.

And yet, it was always my greatest pleasure to come home.

The west is home. I have family in Boise, Pocatello and Lava Hot Springs. My grandparents lived in Montpelier. My mom and dad were married in Paris.

Idaho, not France.

For the last 21 years, I have been in Salt Lake City. I planted deep roots there.

Now I have the good fortune to be in Boise. I desire nothing more than to also plant deep roots in the good soil here.
