BOISE, idaho (CBS2) — The Idaho National Guard honored Memorial Day on May 25th, 2023, at Gowen Field.
The ceremony consisted of a multi-service color guard, the singing of the National Anthem, flyovers from an A-10 and Blackhawk, commemorative bricklaying, and a cannon salute.
Throughout the year, more than twenty memorial bricks were purchased. Those memorial bricks are to honor the Idaho Soldiers, airmen, citizens, and their family members.
Throughout my time in different units, we move around about every three years, and I've lost several friends to combat. In the Philippines, in Iraq, in Afghanistan, and in the theatres that we've been in the past twenty years. I've lost friends that I've known personally that I've sat with, talked with, trained with and so personally that's what's in my mind, that's what I think about on Memorial Day...is those friends, those comrades that I worked hard with, those are the ones that I specifically remember. - Col. Skye Duncan, Senior Advisor, Idaho Army Guard
