Positive West Nile virus mosquito trap in Parma one of the earliest since 2006
PARMA, Idaho (KBOI) —
A positive West Nile virus trap has been detected in Canyon County -- one of the season's earliest recording since 2006.
The Canyon County Mosquito Abatement District said Tuesday that mosquitoes carrying the virus were discovered in a trap west of Parma off Hexon Road and Scott Pitt Road near the Fort Boise Wildlife Management area.
West Nile hasn't been found this early in the Treasure Valley since 2006 when almost 1,000 Idahoans contracted the virus and 23 people lost their lives.
The district held nighttime fogging treatments for the area. Follow up trapping will be conducted later in the week.
