A group of parents have filed a lawsuit against the West Ada Education Association, claiming this week's sick-outs are an illegal strike.

Daniel Suhr, who is a lawyer with the Liberty Justice Center is representing those parents. He spoke with 670 KBOI's Nate Shelman on Tuesday afternoon.

"Idaho law has said for almost 40 years now that public employees, they work for all of us, and because of that, they can't strike," Suhr said. "They are the original essential employees. What we've seen here is this teacher's union treating kids like pawns in a policy disagreement with the school board."

Suhr called the strike illegal and incredibly disruptive for families. He said it's damaging for students' academic achievement and emotional well-being.
