The coronavirus has created new concerns about child abuse.

Throughout the month of April, the focus is on prevention.

For the Nampa Family Justice Center, prevention remains a top priority, even if it means focusing it online.

Jeannie Strohmeyer, Program Manager of the Nampa Family Justice Center says the team sat down and decided to create a week of virtual activities that are both fun and can still highlight child abuse prevention.

One example of an activity is painting your thumb blue for a "big thumbs up in support for child abuse prevention" and posting it on social media.

Each day there will be a new challenge. Those who post photos on Instagram with the hashtag #nfjcchildabuseprevention will be entered to win a prize.

The center is still open for those who are in need.

“We want people to know that we are open, we are able to help," Strohmeyer said. "We have resources, we have emergency housing, and any service to provide those who need it.”
