Man in jail after eluding police, dragging officer, striking police K-9

Caldwell Police say William Kirkpatrick is in jail after momentarily dragging a police office, eluding police and striking a police K-9.

A man is in jail following a police chase in Caldwell.

According to a Caldwell Police press release, officers responded to a call Sunday and arrived to the 1500 block of N. Indiana where a man was severely beaten.

Witnesses gave officers a description of the truck that fled the scene.

Officers found the truck and identified the suspect in it as William Kirkpatrick. Caldwell Police says Kirkpatrick had multiple injuries but tried to get back in the truck before paramedics arrived. Kirkpatrick momentarily dragged one officer who tried to get him out of the truck.

After a six-minute pursuit, Kirkpatrick stopped but, according to the press release, continued to not follow orders. A police K-9 was used but Kirkpatrick struck the K-9 multiple times before officers used a taser on him.

After being released from the hospital, Kirkpatrick was taken to the Canyon Canyon Jail for eluding a peace officer, mistreatment of a police K-9 and resisting arrest.

The person who was found severely beaten is not believed to have life-threatening injuries. The officer who was dragged was not injured. Caldwell Police did not provide an update on the K-9.
