Man dies while checking tire pressure on Oregon Route 86

A man was killed Friday evening after a car crashed into him, while he was checking the air pressure on his trailer's tires, on Oregon Route 86, near Baker City.

According to Oregon State Police, Dennis Tim Cheney, 59, of Walla Walla, Wash., had pulled his truck and trailer over on the shoulder of the westbound lane to check his vehicle's tire pressure.

Another vehicle traveling westbound crossed into the shoulder and hit Cheney.

Cheny was pronounced dead on scene.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken into Baker City Police custody and charged with DUI, Manslaughter 1 and 2, Criminally Negligent Homicide, and Reckless Endangerment.
