Local girl has chance of hearing with new implant
BOSIE, Idaho (CBS2) —
A little girl named Bailey has the chance to hear with the help of a new implant.
Bailey has profound hearing loss and until today had only been able to hear low sounds.
She had surgery back in March to install a cochlear implant. Doctors at St. Luke's turned it on allowing her to start hearing again.
Over the next few months, her doctors will help her adjust to the new sounds.
"We're feeling very hopeful that she'll be able to hear very well again, and understand, not even hear just understand and know what we're saying, that's it... communication," said Bailey's mother Kyrstin Madsen.
Bailey will be able to hear the frequencies of a hearing person but since it's an electrical simulation, it will sound a bit different.
Doctors say if you suspect your child might have trouble hearing take the first step and get their hearing checked.
