Large apartment fire battled on Boise Bench

Dispatchers tell KBOI 2News the fire is reported on the 4800 block of Clark at the Parkwood Apartments near Orchard and Overland Road.  (Courtesy Shelley Burrus)

As smoke and flames swarmed around the Parkwood apartments at Orchard and Clark streets, residents could only watch and wonder what damage was being done to the places where they live.

"I think I'm most worried about the memories, because pictures, stuff like that, you can't get back," said DL Johnson.

A stack of wood pallets and some hot tubs burned in the apartment parking lot and flames danced on the roof above.

Fire investigators say the blaze started outside then moved toward the apartment complex. They're working to determine the cause.

Boise Fire Division Chief Randy Howell briefed us on the damage he was aware of.

"Mostly exterior, 2 four plexes, one smoke only, and then the other one we do have some fire damage, mostly exterior damage, but there is some interior," he said. "No injuries."

Ten fire engines responded to the two alarm fire.

The Red Cross and the fire department are working to find places to stay for tenants who cannot move back yet.
