BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — A 52-year-old teacher at Kuna Middle School has been sentenced to 60 years for lewd conduct committed against a student in his classroom.
Cory Gaylor pled guilty to lewd conduct with a child under 16 and enticing a child over the internet in July. Gaylor was employed as a Kuna Middle School teacher when law enforcement determined he had illegal sexual contact with a minor student.
Gaylor groomed and sexually abused the victim in his classroom on multiple occasions, according to a statement released by the prosecution. Gaylor also texted the victim several weeks before the illegal sexual contact to groom them.
On Thursday, Judge Norton sentenced Gaylor to 60 years in prison, 13 of which are fixed before he is eligible for parole.
"The defendant was a teacher and was supposed to be teaching [the victim]. Instead, the defendant took this safe place and used it to select a victim. The fact that he used his position to engage in this conduct is reprehensible," said Deputy Prosecutor Katelyn Farley during the sentencing argument.
