Highway 55 back open after blowing and drifting snow

Highway 55 is back open Tuesday morning, after being closed late Monday due to extreme weather.

The Idaho Transportation Department warned drivers of blowing and drifting snow and reduced visibility, which shut down a portion of the road between Donnelly and an area north of Horseshoe Bend.

"Our foreman is reporting the worst conditions he's seen in nearly a decade," ITD spokesman Jake Melder said on Monday. "Plow operators are seeing drifts four feet deep in the center of the roadway. As we continue the fight to keep the road open, we know we can only push so hard before putting our own crew members at risk."
