The Idaho Department of Correction allowed inmates to watch the solar eclipse as a reward for recent good behavior. On October 24, 2023, the facility handed out sunglasses for the inmates to view the eclipse safely.

The inmates took time outside of their jail cells to enjoy the solar eclipse that only occurs every one to two years. The sight lasted just under fifteen minutes.
