The Idaho Humane Society says it's looking into reports of a person on social media purchasing animals off the Internet and then harming them.

In addition, the Humane Society says it's received messages that the person could be living in southern Idaho, however, that has yet to be confirmed. Whether it's verified to be local, the Idaho Humane Society still posted a warning on Facebook about the dangers of re-homing pets.

"While we are not sure this individual is in fact living outside of the Treasure Valley, we encourage everyone to ensure their pets are being monitored and safely contained and highly encourage people not to rehome pets (free or paid) on Craigslist or social media without doing due diligence," the Idaho Humane Society said.

Staff members say they are working with police "in order to find the perpetrator."
