Idaho deputy shot in stomach with pen gun; left with only a bruise
LEWISTON, Idaho (CBS 2) —
A Nez Perce County sheriff's deputy was shot in the stomach with a pen gun during a search of a vehicle this week.
The Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office says one of its deputies stopped a vehicle on Highway 95 early Wednesday morning for a traffic stop. While searching a backpack that was inside the vehicle, police say the deputy found a handgun as well as a pen that was loaded with gun powder and a projectile. As he was looking at the pen, it went off — shooting the projectile at his stomach.
The deputy suffered only a superficial bruise.
The driver, Jessica Brunmeier, was wanted on a probation warrant and was taken into custody at the Nez Perce County Jail. Brunmeier's passenger, Dillan Smith, was arrested on an active warrant.
