A man is behind bars after Elmore County Sheriff says that he stole a truck in Boise and hid in a home northeast of Mountain Home Monday.

The man is identified by deputies as Matthew D. McCulloch.

At 7:34 p.m. Monday, an abandoned vehicle on Lester Creek Road just north of the Boise National Forest Lester Creek Guard Station was reported to dispatch.

Deputies say they found a Ford F-150 that was reported stolen out of Boise.

Deputies tracked the McCulloch's footprints in the snow from the stolen vehicle to the Lester Creek Guard Station. According to the sheriff's office, someone entered the station, caused damage and removed several items.

The deputies continued tracking the footprints in the snow which lead them to a home a quarter mile south of the Lester Creek Guard Station. The deputies found that McCulloch entered into the house and was hiding in a bedroom closet.

McCulloch was taken into custody without incident. He was later booked into the Elmore County Jail on charges including Burglary, Malicious Injury to Property, Petit Theft and Joy Riding

    This is an on-going investigation.
