BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Talk about a lucky dog. 11-year-old Ace is recovering after a close call with a stick.
Ace arrived at the Idaho Humane Society's veterinary hospital with a large stick protruding from the right side of his stomach. IHS's veterinary staff performed an exam and set up a strategy for his surgery.
"Miraculously, the stick protruded at an angle, missing all his organs. We were able to successfully remove the stick without any complications and we're happy to report that Ace is now home relaxing and recovering," said IHS in a Facebook post.
Ace's owner is unsure how he became tangled with the stick in the first place, according to IHS. They believe he may have jumped or fallen into a woodpile at their home.
IHS said the family utilized its services because it has payment plan options. "Thanks to donors like you, we are able to provide a number of financial options to provide medical care for pets in need," IHS said on Facebook.
The owner, Jodi Anderson, said Ace is doing well and back to his old ways.
"He is great! He is back getting into all kinds of trouble. He's back out chasing rabbits," Anderson said.
The important thing is Ace is recovering and hopefully won't have to visit the vet anytime soon.
