Boise mayor Laren McLean announced Thursday that Boise is on track to have 100 percent clean energy by 2023.

This move was immediately praised by Conservation Voters for Idaho.

"The City’s announcement that they will achieve their 100% clean electricity goal seven years earlier than their original commitment date demonstrates how workable clean energy is for Idaho communities,” said Ryan McGoldrick, CVI program coordinator. “Three out of four Idahoans are now living in communities that benefit from city, county, or utility clean energy commitments."

McLean's announcement comes shortly after President Biden came to Boise and argued that climate change is responsible for the rise in wildfires.

According to CVI, several other Idaho areas have made commitments in the last three years to move towards cleaner energy, including the cities of Meridian, Idaho Falls, Pocatello, Ketchum, Hailey, Bellevue, and Ada and Blaine Counties.
