Boise sees 5th highest rent increase rate in nation, according to report
BOISE — Boise saw the nation’s fifth largest rent increase by percentage in 2018, according to a report from Apartment Guide.
The average rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Boise is up 14.4 percent from December 2017 to December 2018, sitting at $1,062, according to the report.
The average cost of living still remains 2.1 percent below the national average, according to the report.
All but one of the cost-of-living metrics noted in the report — groceries, utilities and housing — remain below the national average. The only cost-of-living factor that is well above the national average is transportation, which according to the report is 17.1 percent above the national average.
The cost of a two-bedroom apartment in Boise went up roughly 20 percent, with rent averaging $1,344, according to the report.
In Idaho’s neighbor to the west, Portland, Oregon, registered the fifth largest decrease in rent by percentage, with a 4.4 percent decrease for one-bedroom apartments.
Still, in Portland, the average cost for a one-bedroom space remains above Boise’s at $1,644.
