Boise boy with rare cancer given priceless Christmas

St. Luke's gave Jorge and his family a Christmas they will never forget (KBOI 2News).

A boy in the Treasure Valley, who has been battling a rare type of cancer, is having a very Merry Christmas.

15-year-old Jorge Ibanez and his family got to come home from the hospital after a month's stay, just in time for the holiday!

Jorge has Osteosarcoma, a cancer that starts inside the cells that form bones.

Over the past several months, he has undergone chemotherapy, surgeries, and several hospital stays.

Perhaps you might even remember Jorge from a story KBOI 2 did over the summer. It was Jorge's birthday and he asked for cards.

Today, he has received almost 5,000 cards from all over the world.

Jorge isn't a guy who asks for much. So, when St. Luke's chose to bless Jorge and his family this Christmas, they say his wishes were once again selfless.

He asked for snow tires for his family's car and furniture for their house.

Through the community's help, St. Luke's was able to give them that and then some.

They delivered more gifts than Jorge could ever ask for.

A gaming computer and games, a bike and doll house for his little sister, and many more for the family to open on Christmas day.

"We wouldn't have a Christmas if it weren't for all of this," said Sidney Donaldson, Jorge's dad.

It's a Christmas they will never forget and that's because the best gift of all cannot be unwrapped.

After being in the hospital for a month, Jorge and his family got to come home on Friday, just in time for Christmas.

"We are at home and we are together," said Maria Ibanez, Jorge's mom. "That's what is most important."

The best part is, doctors say, Jorge has just two rounds of chemotherapy to go and his cancer will be in remission!

"I would like to say thank you to everyone for supporting us and praying for us and thank you to St. Luke's for everything they have done," said Sidney.
