Boise BLM crews respond to multiple lightning-caused fires in southern Idaho

The Boise District Bureau of Land Management says they have responded to eleven fires that started Friday in southern Idaho.

Some have already been contained and controlled, but the two largest fires have no estimated time of containment yet.

The Alkie (300+ acres) and the Benny (250+acres) fires are both burning about ten miles north of Glenns Ferry, according to the BLM.

Here is a list of the remaining fires they are fighting Friday:

Alkie Fire

  • Located approximately 7 miles north of Glenns Ferry, ID
  • Estimated at 1,000 acres
  • Cause – Lightning
  • No estimated contain or control time.

Benny Fire

  • Located approximately 9 miles north of Glenns Ferry, ID
  • Estimated at 400 acres
  • Cause – Lightning
  • Consumed the Little C Fire.
  • No estimated contain or control time
  • Resources for Alkie and Benny fires are 6 dozers, 20 engines, 2 water tenders, 1 helicopter, 2 hand crews and the Mountain Home RFPA

Cutoff Fire

  • Located approximately 13 miles southwest of Grand View , ID
  • Estimated at 500 acres
  • Cause – Lightning
  • Resources – Air attack, air tankers, 2 engines, 2 dozers, 1 water tender and Grand View Fire Department
  • No estimated contain or control time
