Alleged elusive carjacking suspect Seiber hit with escape charges

BOISE, Idaho. (KBOI) - A Nampa carjacking suspect who police say led them on a manhunt from Nampa to rural Montana last fall has been charged.

Rodney Seiber has been booked in the Ada County Jail on several felonies including escape, robbery and kidnapping. The sheriff's office says Seiber was arrested by Nampa Police Thursday morning and is being held on $1 million bond.

The sheriff's office says the charges stem from Seiber's actions last fall.

Seiber started making regional news Sept. 18 when officials say he threatened a welding supply company employee in Nampa at knifepoint.

He fled into a cornfield and disappeared. Ten days later, he was arrested in an outbuilding near Garryowen on Montana's Crow Indian Reservation after fleeing Montana law enforcement officers for three days.

When he was brought back to the Treasure Valley, however, Seiber managed to allegedly escape a private security transport team near the Boise Stage Stop on Interstate 84. He was on the run for about an hour before being captured again.

In November of last year, Seiber was admitted to St. Luke's Hospital in Boise for an unreleased medical condition.

Nampa Police say the last thing they were told about Seiber is that he was on life support at the hospital and was not expected to survive.

But Thursday morning, police say a woman who is a former acquaintance of Seiber's called and said he was causing a disturbance at her home near the 2300 block of Nampa Caldwell Boulevard.

"She called the police because he was causing a disturbance, and the officers didn't know who they were talking to until they ran his name," Sgt. Joe Ramirez with the Nampa Police Department told the Idaho Press-Tribune. "This guy just escapes in life, and it looks like he escapes death, I guess."

Ramirez also said that Seiber suffered open sores on his feet or legs during his time fleeing from law enforcement and those sores became infected, which is what lead to his hospitalization.
