Nampa third graders create scale model all ability playgrounds
NAMPA, Idaho (KBOI) —
A group of third graders at Lake Ridge Elementary in Nampa have been working all year on a special project — designing playgrounds that anyone can play on!
The students in Mrs. Wheaton's class are hoping to convince the Nampa City Council to build an all ability playground using one of their designs.
They started off with researching other all ability playgrounds throughout the world. Then, they came up with their own ideas and put them to paper. After that, the students created scale models of their designs — using anything from clay to LEGO.
"Making a model of what you drew is harder than it actually looks," said Jordyn Koeppel, a third grader at Lake Ridge Elementary. "It's very hard. This took us about, like five weeks."
Next, the students will be sharing their ideas with the Nampa City Council, hoping that one day their scale models become life-sized.
"If we had all of our all ability playgrounds, that would be an awesome playground for the entire Nampa City," said Jordyn.
