CALDWELL, Idaho (CBS 2) — Middle school students around the Treasure Valley are building, coding, and gearing up for the the FIRST LEGO League robotics regional competition that's just about a week away.
One team, at Sage Valley Middle School in Caldwell, believes this is its year – thanks to funding from CapEd Credit Union's Get $100 & Give $100 program.
The grant helped provide the team with the most up-to-date LEGO robot, the EV3, the same version that most their competition will be using – therefore, leveling the playing field.
"The older robots are a little limited with programming," said Todd Vallier, FIRST LEGO League coach at Sage Valley Middle School. "So, we were kind of looking at how far our team got last year and said, 'okay, we need that one little push to get to state competition."
The regional competition will be held at Galileo STEM Academy in Eagle.
Teams who win regional will go onto the state competition in Twin Falls this spring.
