State softball tournament begins, baseball finals set

The state softball tournment began in Nampa and Caldwell, where some teams played as many as three games in the double-elimination tournament. Championship matchups will not be set until tomorrow, when the victor of the winner's bracket meets the winner of the loser's bracket.

The 5A baseball championship sets up Capital and Eagle. The Eagles beat Mountain View, 3-2, while the Mustangs topped Rocky Mountain, 5-2.

In 4A, Lakeland beat Skyview, 16-10 to advance to the finals. On the other side of the bracket, Twin Falls trumped Bishop Kelly, 6-4.

Fruitland heads to the 3A championship after defeating Marsh Valley, 18-7. It will meet Snake River.

Nampa Christian will play for the 2A title after taking down New Plymouth, 3-1. The team will face Orofino.
