State Football Champions crowned at Bronco Stadium

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - Quarterback Leighton Vander Esch led Salmon River High School to their second-straight 1AD2 State Championship Friday night, beating the Council Lumberjacks 66-26 at Bronco Stadium.

Salmon River ran the table during the regular season, winning all of their games with an explosive offense that average more than 52 points per contest. They're defense wasn't bad either, shutting out five of their 12 opponents this season.

The second half of the Bronco Stadium double-dip was a bit more even. Undefeated Bishop Kelly came in as the favorite against one-loss Skyview. The Hawks only blemish came in the season opener against BK, when the Knights edged Skyview 14-10.

Skyview jumped on top of Bishop Kelly early, and led the game 14-9 at the half, but the second half the floodgates opened at Bronco Stadium. The Hawks and Knights scored a combined 53 points after the break, and Skyview was unable to keep up with the Bishop Kelly offense. Skyview's first trip to the 4A Title Game ends in with a 42-34 loss, while Bishop Kelly picks up their fourth state title in the past ten years.
