Hawks come back for sweep of Ems

The Boise Hawks used a three-run eighth inning to steal the lead back from Eugene for the second straight night, then worked out of a bases loaded jam in the ninth to win 6-5 and complete the series sweep of Eugene.

After falling behind 2-0 on two unearned runs in the top of the third inning, Boise grabbed the lead in the bottom of the third on a three-run Yasiel Balaguert homer. Balaguert leads the Northwest League with four home runs and 22 RBI this season.

Eugene scored single runs in each of the next three innings - including a go-ahead solo homer by Michael Miller, to lead 5-3, before the Hawks rallied late.

With Balaguert and Jacob Rogers on base in the eighth, Rony Rodriguez chopped an RBI double down the left field line to cut the margin to 5-4. Jordan Hankins broke an 0-12 slump at the plate with an RBI base-hit that scored Rodriguez for the go-ahead run.

Andrew McKirahan tossed two shutout innings for his first professional win, and Matt Iannazzo worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to pick up the save.

The Hawks hit the road tomorrow, starting a three-game series at division leading Salem-Keizer. James Pugliese gets the start for Boise, opposite Jose Reyes at 7:35 p.m. PST.
