Vandals sweep WAC honors

MOSCOW, Idaho - Rachel Millet and Paige Hunt have been chosen the Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for January 13-19.

Millet, a junior from Spokane, Wash. (Ferris HS), won all three individual events she competed in during a dual meet at New Mexico State. Millet won the 100-yard backstroke (56.66), the 200 backstroke (2:04.11) and the 200 individual medley (2:07.42). She also swam the leadoff leg of the winning 200 medley relay as the Vandals won the meet, 173-127.

"Rachel loves to race and relishes competition," coach Mark Sowa said. "She is putting together a great season and we are excited to see where she can take this thing."

Hunt, a senior from Mesa, Ariz. (Mesa CC), won the 3-meter springboard in a dual meet at New Mexico State with a score of 299.92. She scored 30 more points than the second place finisher in the event. Hunt added a second place finish on the 1-meter with a score of 258.82, just four points behind the winner.

"It has been so fun to watch Paige's progression into a tremendous diver and teammate over the last couple of years," Sowa said. "She has really upped her game recently and we feel like she still has her best diving ahead of her."

The Vandals wrap up the regular season Saturday with Senior Day at the UI Swim Center. The meet begins at 11 a.m. and is free and open to the public.
