Southwick makes Unitas Award Watch List

BALTIMORE - Boise State redshirt senior quarterback Joe Southwick was named to the 2013 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watch List, Thursday.

Southwick, originally from Danville, Calif., started each of the Broncos' 13 games in 2012, completing 248-of-371 passes for 2,730 yards, 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions. His completion and attempt totals each rank seventh on Boise State's all-time single-season list, and his completion percentage (.669) is the fifth-highest single-season mark in school history.

Established in 1987, the Golden Arm Award is presented annually to the nation's top college quarterback based on character, citizenship, scholastic achievement, leadership qualities and athletic accomplishments.

Candidates must be fourth-year juniors or seniors, and on track to graduate with their class.

Past winners include Payton Manning (1997), Carson Palmer (2002), Eli Manning (2003), Brady Quinn (2006), Matt Ryan (2007), Colt McCoy (2009), Andrew Luck (2011) and Collin Klein (2012).

The award will presented at a ceremony in Baltimore, Dec. 6, 2013.
