C of I Softball caps the year of the Yote

CALDWELL, Idaho (KBOI) - I don't think it's part of the Chinese Calendar, but the 2013-14 athletic season has been the year of the Yote.

The football team's just months away from returning after a hiatus of more than 30 years, basketball found their way back to Branson and the NAIA National Tournament, and now the softball the NAIA World Series.

It's not like the Coyotes have been to the series, but head coach Al Mendiola says it's never been quite like this.

"The reason why it's probably the best experience is because we had to win and qualify to go to it. There's only ten teams that go to this now. When we went in 2008, and 2009 there were 32 teams there, so we didn't feel as special. This is it! I mean we have a chance to do something that this program hasn't done. And I have the right people in line, and I'm excited," said Mendiola.

The College of Idaho heads to Columbus, Georgia where they'll start NAIA World Series play against Lindsey Wilson College of Kentucky. The Blue Raiders and Coyotes duel on the diamond Friday morning, 8 AM Mountain Time.
