Broncos 'Heat up the Hardwood'

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - The Bronco men's and women's basketball teams did their part to Heat up the Hardwood at Taco Bell Arena Wednesday night.

Head men's coach Leon Rice thought it was a great way to break up the monotony of this year's extended preseason practice schedule, but it really just looked like a lot of fun, with Bronco Nation cheering on their favorite hoops teams.

One of the highlights the slam dunk contest which was really just a one-man show. James Webb III put on a clinic.

Anthony Drmic shined in the scrimmage with a dunk of his own. I think they say he's got kangaroo hops in his native land of Australia or maybe not. Either way, Wednesday was all about having a good time before the Broncos flip the switch on Friday.

"You know, when the ball tips it's a little more intense and a little more serious. So this is just a nice little appreciation for our fans, and for our guys kind of having a nice little culmination of what they've done in the fall camp, and get to come out here and mess around a little bit," said Rice.

The Bronco women have an injury riddled roster, but they were still healthy enough to field a couple teams and take part in all the fun.

"I was glad we did it, and I felt like our kids got a chance to shoot in front of fans, and they shot really well, so that part was all worth it, and it was fun," said women's head coach Gordy Presnell.

The women open up their season Monday night with an exhibition game against Southern Oregon, while the men get a jump start with exhibition action against Lewis-Clark State.
