Bronco defense shines in scrimmage

BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State defense earned an 18-0 victory in front of 7,410 fans at Bronco Stadium Sunday, in the team's annual Fall Scrimmage.

The defense earned three points each off of an interception from redshirt senior safety Ebo Makinde, and a fumble recovery from freshman defensive lineman Austin Silsby.

Additional scoring came off of sacks by redshirt freshman linebacker Chris Santini and freshman linebacker Joe Martarano (two points each), two fourth-down stops (three points each) and two forced three-and-outs (one point each).

Santini finished with a team-high eight tackles (four solo).

Redshirt senior quarterback Joe Southwick played just one series, completing 3-of-4 passes for 28 yards and an interception.

Redshirt sophomore running back Jay Ajayi led the Broncos with 38 yards on four carries, while redshirt freshman Taylor Pope had a team-high three catches and junior receiver Terrell Johnson had a team-high 26 receiving yards.

Boise State opens the 2013 season against Washington, Aug. 31. The game between the Broncos and Huskies is slated to kick off at 8 p.m. (MT) at Husky Stadium in Seattle, and the game will be nationally-televised by FOX Sports 1.
