Ajayi loses weight to gain carries

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - Redshirt sophomore Jay Ajayi tore an ACL during his red-shirt season in 2011, spent 2012 as the D.J. Harper's backup, but he's hoping 2013 is his season to shine.

Ajayi is expected to earn the starting job, and make it three-different number one halfbacks in three seasons (Doug Martin, and D.J. Harper were the last two).

There are plenty of question marks that come along with Ajayi, most of them revolving around his durability, but he's used off season workouts to answer some of them.

"Last year I was playing at about 228 lbs. Now I kind of leaned out just so it would be better for me, and my knee, and I just feel better at this weight. So I'm about 218 lbs right now. I definitely think that losing weight will definitely add an extra gear in my game, and it'll just be better for my knee," said Ajayi.

If Boise State's bruising back adds a touch of top-end speed to his repertoire, it will be better for everyone wearing blue and orange.
