Former Broncos making mark in NBA G League
BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) —
Four former Boise State players are one step away from the NBA.
The G League is the minor league organization of the NBA.
Former shooting guard Coby Karl is the head coach of the South Bay Lakers. Karl played at BSU from 2003-2007. The All-WAC player suited up for the Los Angeles Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors while also playing overseas. He is the fifth-leading scorer in Boise State history with 1,698 points.
Playing for Karl is Rob Heyer. Heyer is averaging 3.4 points per game. In Heyer’s redshirt senior year at Boise State (2014-15) he was the only Bronco to play in all 34 games. That was Heyer’s only season playing for the team.
Derricks Marks is playing for the Erie BayHawks. Marks is averaging 4.5 points a game. Marks is the fourth-leading scorer in Bronco history with 1,912 points. He played for BSU from 2011-15.
Also playing in the G League is James Webb III. Webb III recently signed a two-way contract with the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets. A two-way contract lets NBA teams move players between the two leagues. In 21 games with the Delaware 76ers Webb III averaged 11.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Webb III was with the Broncos from 2013-16.
