Former Bronco takes action to 'Fill the Stands' at next BSU game

“It was actually the worst attendance I’ve seen since I’ve moved to Boise and was involved in Boise State football," said former Bronco, Elliot Hoyte. (Devan Kaney photo)

“It was actually the worst attendance I’ve seen since I’ve moved to Boise and was involved in Boise State football," said former Bronco, Elliot Hoyte.

To say Hoyte was disappointed by attendance of the Boise State New Mexico game would be an understatement.

“I know as a player, you’re kind of conditioned to think there are no outside influences at all which can change the outcome of a game, but I think we’re kidding ourselves when we think the fans don’t play a big part in how our games kind of transpire.”

After watching his first game as a former Bronco, Hoyte took to twitter.

“I kind of went to Twitter and went on a bit of a rampage with my feeling and my thoughts and some of the feedback from when I said why aren’t people there essentially was that people couldn’t afford it. Some people had fallen hard of time and had less money and couldn’t pay to get tickets.”

Hoyte created a GoFundMe page called ‘Fill The Stands’ to raise money for the purchase of tickets for the October 21st game against Wyoming.

The campaign has taken off.

“I started the goal at $2500 I think within about 36 hours I beat that goal so I upped it to 10,000 and we’re up to about 7,000 right now so it keeps growing by about a thousand or so every day.”

But not all feedback has been positive.

“I think someone even said ‘you know you should work more to raising minimum wage,’ but I’m not a politician by any means at all. I’m just trying to use the toolbox I have to try and make other people’s lives a little bit more bearable,” Hoyte said.

Hoyte partnered with local organizations CATCH and the Meridian Police Department to reach their goal by Oct 8.

In the meantime, he’ll continue to be a loyal Bronco fan.

“Are you going to the game tomorrow?” Asked KBOI 2 reporter Devan Kaney.

“Obviously! I have to now! If I didn’t I’d be coming under a lot of fire.” Hoyte said.

Friday's game against Virginia is looking better. Ticket sales have already surpassed 31,000 which is more than what sold for the New Mexico game.
