Authorities arrested a man Saturday after a deputy spotted him looting in Fort Pierce Saturday morning.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office says a deputy was patrolling shuttered homes and businesses along North U.S. 1. A voluntary evacuation order was placed over parts of the county as Hurricane Irma continues its path to Florida.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the deputy spotted 30-year-old Keith Adams outside of Atlantic Hardscapes.

Deputies confirmed that Adams was not the owner and burglarized the business.

"I have said over and over that we will not tolerate looting or price gouging," said Sheriff Ken J. Mascara. "We have deputies actively patrolling the county, including our beach communities, to ensure the safety and security of your homes and businesses. If you think you are going to take advantage of these evacuated properties, be prepared to spend the storm at the county jail."
