Someone in the Treasure Valley is apparently interested in cinema marketing.

A deflated red balloon was found tied to a storm drain at the Village at Meridian on Wednesday. The red balloon is widely known in the horror movie circuit as the creepy symbol of Pennywise, an evil clown that spends its time in the sewer, hoping to lure children in Stephen King's "It" novel.

A commenter on the KBOI Facebook page said he saw a similar balloon near Milwaukee and Fairview as well. And there are reports of balloons showing up in Mountain Home.

Earlier this week, some teens in Pennsylvania made nationwide headlines after tying red balloons to storm drains, which prompted a tongue and cheek response from the local police department.

The screen adaptation of the movie opens nationwide in theaters this weekend.
