World War II grenade found in box at Garden City home

GARDEN CITY, Idaho (KBOI) -- Bomb technicians disposed of a World War II hand grenade that was found at a home in Garden City in the 8100 block of N. Dodgin Avenue.

An elderly woman in the home found it in a box of old belongings, but said she couldn't remember if it was her husbands or brothers. She wrapped it with tape to be safe until her son came by and placed it in the yard.

The Boise Bomb Squad was called out, and sheriff's deputies closed off the street until it could be dealt with. They used a special disposal until for small munitions to safely transport it away before it was destroyed.

Some neighbors said they were worried when they first saw so many officers arrive on scene, but felt better once they knew what was going on.
