Nampa PD: Woman falls from vehicle, dies in police pursuit

Officers took Nevarez into custody. He is being charged with felony Possession of a Controlled Substance and felony Eluding.

Nampa Police reports an overnight pursuit ended with one woman dead, and one man in custody.

This all happened just after 12:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Nampa Police officers stopped a vehicle in the 1600 block of 2nd St S. During the stop, the driver, identified as Joe A. Nevarez, fled the traffic stop in his vehicle. But a few blocks into the pursuit, police say a woman fell from the passenger seat of the vehicle and died from her injuries. Currently, her identity is not available for release.

Nevarez was pursued to the area of Highway 45 and E Locust Lane, where officers ended the pursuit using a pursuit intervention technique.

Officers took Nevarez into custody. He is being charged with felony Possession of a Controlled Substance and felony Eluding.

The Canyon County Critical Incident Task Force is investigating this incident. The Idaho State Police is the lead investigating agency for this case.

Nevarez is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Canyon County.
