Emergency crews responded to a fatal crash just east of Mountain Home that closed the westbound interstate Friday afternoon.

Idaho State Police say they are assisting the Elmore County Sheriff's Office in investigating.

The crash was near milepost 99.

The driver of a Dodge Durango was traveling east on I-84 when the vehicle drifted off the right shoulder of the roadway.

The driver over-corrected and the vehicle crossed both eastbound travel lanes and entered the median. The vehicle rolled through the median and entered the westbound travel lanes.

It came to rest on its wheels blocking both lanes.

A 70 year old man sitting in the back seat was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The man landed in the westbound lanes, was struck by a semi-truck trailer and died at the scene

The driver, a 70-year-old woman, and a 52-year-old male passenger were transported to St. Alphonsus in Boise with serious injuries.

The driver of the semi-truck was treated and released at the scene.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash. The investigation is on-going.
