UPDATE: Simplot hasn't laid off employees yet

CALDWELL, Idaho (KBOI) -- Earlier Friday, a Simplot spokesman told KBOI that it had laid off employees at its Caldwell plant.

But David Cuio, Simplot spokesman, now says he was mistaken and those layoffs haven't occurred yet.

Back in 2011, the company announced that it would close three plants in Nampa, Caldwell and Aberdeen, which employ about 800 employees.

Simplot plans to built one plant to replace the three, which will employ about 250 people. The company plans to build the new 380,000-square-foot plant at the current Caldwell site. Employees who lose their jobs will be allowed to apply for jobs at the new plant.
