Two unlikely Broncos fans cheering for Boise State

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) -- With the Boise State football season opener against the University of Washington Huskies in Seattle on Saturday fast approaching, BSU gear is flying off store shelves.

And when I went to check out the new stuff, I ran into two unlikely Broncos fans.

One of them, Martin King, is a brave man.

He lives in Nevada: Nevada -- where there's a certain university that has dealt the Boise State Broncos some bitter blows.

But King is a big Boise State fan and will proudly wear his new BSU cap and jacket this season -- smack in Wolf Pack country.

"I don't know, I've always been a Boise State fan," King, of Elko, Nev., says. "My son went to the University of Nevada in Reno, and my daughter went to the University of Utah. Great rivalries."

The official game day BSU fan t-shirt says: "What Happens In Vegas, Happens In Seattle"...a not so veiled reference to the Broncos' two-point win over the Huskies in The MAACO Bowl at Las Vegas last December.

And at the BSU student union, I found a Seattle resident who will actually be cheering for Boise State. What's up with that?

"Well, I have a daughter who is starting at Boise State as a freshman. We're in town to drop her off," says Steve Edmiston of Seattle. "And I went to Washington State University, a big rival of the Huskies. Frankly, I'll go for any school against the Huskies in their new stadium on opening day. Go Boise State."

As fall classes begin at Boise State, Bronco Nation is hoping for a big win in Seattle to kick off the new semester and football season.
