Two police officers die within week on Idaho's roads

RENO, Nev. (AP) Authorities say it could be a month before prosecutors decide whether to file charges in a motorcycle accident that killed a Reno police officer in Idaho.

Idaho State Police tell the Reno Gazette-Journal that the accident still needs to be reconstructed before prosecutors get the case.

Police say 30-year-old Scott Heglar was off-duty and riding with friends on Interstate 84 in Idaho's Canyon County when he was rear-ended by a car in a four-vehicle crash on July 11. He was on life support before dying Saturday at a Boise hospital.

Heglar was an eight-year veteran of the police force. He is survived by a wife and four children.

A funeral is set for Aug. 4.

Heglar is the second police officer to die in Idaho in vehicle related crashes.

Over the weekend, Idaho State Police says Spokane Police officer Kurt Henson crashed his motorcycle near Clark Fork in northern Idaho. He was then killed when the driver of a pickup truck hit Henson.

Idaho State Police says the driver of the truck fled. She was later identified as 28-year-old Brianna Knapp, who's been arrested for leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
