Four people missing after vehicle crashes into northern Idaho river

The closest access point to the car is from Darby Montana. The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office to reach the vehicle.

Two of six people escaped a vehicle that drove into the Selway River in backcountry of Idaho County.

Deputies say that Two Bear Air, a medical search and rescue helicopter from Flathead County Montana, flew the river and was unable to find the remaining four people. They said the high water and fast-moving conditions makes it unsafe to remove the vehicle and check for the other occupants.

Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office in Hamilton, Montana received reports of the vehicle on Monday morning.

Clearwater County’s Back Country Helicopter and Idaho County Sheriff’s personnel and search and rescue are continuing to look for the occupants.

The names of the victims have not been released until all families have been notified.
