SUV crashes head-on into Wash. school bus

LAKE STEVENS, Wash. - An SUV slammed head-on into a school bus Tuesday morning near Lake Stevens, seriously injuring two people in the SUV. Two students and a driver on the bus sustained minor injuries.

Police and medics responded to the scene, the 11000 block of South Lake Stevens Road, at about 6:45 a.m. after receiving a report of a serious crash involving a bus.

Arriving there, they found that a Chevy Tahoe had crossed into the oncoming lanes and crashed head-on into the school bus, said Dennis Taylor of the Lake Stevens Police.

Two Cavelero Mid High School students and a driver were aboard the school bus. They sustained minor injuries and are being treated at the scene, said Jayme Taylor, director of communications for the Lake Stevens School District.

"It sounds like some teeth went through lips, so lots of blood, but the students are very calm and just being checked out," Taylor said. "It's as calm as can be under the circumstances. Obviously a big mess with the debris and gasoline, but everyone's doing what they should be doing and staying calm."

The driver and a passenger in the SUV were extricated and taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
