Shackled man escapes from Wash. courthouse, police say

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- A 21-year-old man in shackles and a red jumpsuit escaped custody Friday morning at the Bellevue Courthouse and is currently on the loose, according to the Bellevue Police Department.

According to police, the man was at the courthouse at 585 112th Ave. S.E. around 11:30 a.m. when he escaped and jumped into a waiting blue Crown Victoria, which sped off.

Police are still looking for the suspect, identified as Windell Downs. He's described as an approximately 5-foot-5-inch black man with a medium afro, whose red jumpsuit should make him stand out against all the Seahawks blue today.

Police records show Downs has five previous convictions for first and second degree theft, along with other felony convictions for third degree theft and making false statements to police.

Bellevue police add this car may be involved in the escape and if you see the car, you're asked to call 911.
