Secretary again pleads guilty to embezzlement
KETCHUM, Idaho (AP) - A former secretary for the Blaine-Camas Farm Bureau office in Bellevue has again pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $35,000 from the organization under a new plea agreement after the judge rejected the first deal as being too lenient.
The Idaho Mountain Express reports 60-year-old Judith G. Shurtz entered a new plea agreement in which prosecutors say they will argue for at least four and up to eight years in prison.
Shurtz pleaded guilty in March under a deal in which prosecutors agreed to recommend a year in jail. Fifth District Judge Robert Elgee rejected the recommendation and said he would sentence Shurtz to at least two years in prison.
Ketchum attorney Don Dolan says the defense can argue for a lesser sentence when Shurtz is sentenced on Feb. 25.
