Road crews prep for freezing rain

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - Crews from ACHD and ITD are prepping roads with deicer in anticipation for freezing rain expected to hit early Wednesday morning.

The storm is expected to hit in early in the morning and last almost into the afternoon. Crews will try to get to major roadways and bridges first before hitting side streets.

Unlike snow, freezing rain can turn roadways into a sheet of ice with almost no grip even at low speeds. Some describe it like "driving on a hockey rink."

While crews lay down the deicer they are asking drivers to give themselves more time to get where they're going.

A similar storm at the same time last year closed a 50 mile section of I-84 and caused several schools to close.
