Residents reacting to dash cam video

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - Residents are beginning to share their thoughts on the newly released dash cam video that shows what unfolded during a traffic stop that has now led to a lawsuit.

We showed parts of the video to residents in Boise who have mixed thoughts on the issue.

In the beginning of the video you can see the driver, 69-year-old Darien Roseen, hits a curb while taking the rest stop exit.

For Boise resident Becca Mathias that seemed suspicious enough to be pulled over.

"I mean if he's going to run over a curb while being pulled over it kind of opens a lot of questions like why would you run over a curb," said Mathias. "Unless it was icy but I don't think so."

As she watched further into the video, she says she believes the trooper's questions became aggressive, and didn't have cause for immediately going towards drugs.

"It is his job to pull someone over if they're doing something wrong, and as soon as he hit the curb it was kind of like a little flag," said Mathias. "But to go straight away to the marijuana, have you been smoking sir, do you know what marijuana smells like, can I search your car."

Eventually Roseen was detained, and his truck was taken to Payette County Sheriff's Office to be searched further. Although nothing illegal was ever found.

The lawsuit claims Roseens civil rights were violated, and that he was profiled due to his car's license plate being from Colorado. Which is a state which has legalized marijuana.
