Report: Wife who shot husband could spend up to 10 years in prison

CALDWELL, Idaho (KBOI) - A Caldwell woman could spend up to a decade behind bars for killing her husband earlier this year, according to KBOI media partner the Idaho Press-Tribune.

The newspaper reported Wednesday that Paige Ann Ireland was sentenced to three to 10 years in prison for shooting Samuel Ireland of Caldwell.

Officials say Ireland, who was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter, told the sheriff's detective that her husband had been verbally and physically abusive. When she told him she was leaving the home, she grabbed a hunting rifle and pointed it at him -- thinking it wasn't loaded.

Court documents said Samuel yelled at her to shoot him, and in an effort to scare the man, she pulled the trigger. The gun went off, however, and Samuel later died at a Utah hospital.

The Press-Tribune reports that Ireland will have to serve a minimum of three years behind bars before she's eligible for parole.
